Montana's menu prices in Canada

I built this Montana's restaurant price list from menus and receipts in Toronto, Kingston and Hamilton. Most items had two prices, a lower one and a higher one, and working out why turned into the real story here: two different causes, not one.

These are every priced item in the compiled file, organized the way Montana's own menu organizes them. Where several flavours share one price, the bottled beers, for instance, I've combined them into a row. A further 22 items are listed only as Varies; rather than guess, I've left those out.

Why the same order can cost more: two different reasons, not one

Of the 174 priced rows in this file, 52 are quoted as a range. My assumption going in was that this was purely a Toronto, Kingston and Hamilton story, three cities blended into one list. Twenty-seven of those 52 items say otherwise.

Those 27, just over half, all show a high price roughly 1.2001 to 1.2003 times the low price, an exact 20 percent markup rounded to the cent: the Double Dusted Chicken Wings at $15.99 to $19.19, a full rack of ribs at $30.99 to $37.19. That precision, repeated 27 times across unrelated categories, isn't three locations pricing independently. I checked it against Kelsey's, a sister Recipe Unlimited brand I've priced separately: its in-restaurant menu against its Uber Eats listing, item by item, lines up at 1.2001x to 1.2007x on five items, including a $24.99 to $29.99 pair that matches Montana's own Half Rack exactly. That's a confirmed delivery markup on a sister chain under the same parent, and the likely reading for Montana's 27 matching items is the same mechanism: low number in-restaurant or takeout, high number the same order through a delivery app.

I can't prove that from the Montana's file alone. It doesn't label which number is which, so this is an inference from a matching pattern, not a receipt marked delivery. The other 25 items don't fit that multiplier, and those look like genuine geography instead: spreads run from $1.00 on the Big Grill Trio (3.5 percent) to $5.20 on the 10 oz sirloin (16.3 percent), no consistent ratio tying them together. Both explanations probably hold at once, on different parts of the same menu.

At the till, that most likely means the eight-piece wings are $15.99 ordered at the counter or for takeout, and $19.19 for the identical order through a delivery app, not a different price at a different Montana's. For the 25 items that don't fit the multiplier, the older explanation still applies: which of the three cities you're ordering from can genuinely change the price.

Sides and Add-Ons is the cleanest category: zero of 24 priced items carry a range, no location story and no delivery markup either. Beer, wine, the Market sauces and the combos are just as consistent. Kids menu sits opposite, five of six items ranged, the highest share on the menu, and all five match the 1.2001x delivery pattern exactly, none of them the irregular, geography type. Stick to sides, beer or combos and the price is the price; order off the kids menu and you're likely looking at an app markup, not a different city. Even the Steak Caesar Salad, at $22.99 flat, skips the range the plain version carries ($13.99 to $16.79), a pattern that holds for every steak-topped or lobster-topped item on the menu.

Ribs and steaks, where the money is on this menu

Ribs and steaks carry the highest prices on the menu. Pork back ribs come in three sizes: Taster Plate $17.99 to $21.59, Half Rack $24.99 to $29.99, Full Rack $30.99 to $37.19. Upgrading gets cheaper as you go: Taster to Half adds $7.00 at the low end, but Half to Full only adds $6.00. At the high end, it's $8.40 then $7.20. The Full Rack is the better per-step value.

The Honkin' Beef Rib is pricier still, $38.99 to $43.19, but its 10.8 percent spread isn't the 1.2001x delivery multiplier the three pork sizes carry, more likely genuine location variation. That shrinks its premium over the Full Rack as prices rise, from $8.00 more at the low end to just $6.00 more at the high end.

The steaks run a 7 oz and 10 oz sirloin plus a 12 oz striploin, each ranged. The 7 oz sirloin, $26.99 to $31.19, works out to $3.86 to $4.46 per ounce. The 10 oz, $31.99 to $37.19, is $3.20 to $3.72 per ounce, cheaper at both ends: the bigger cut is the better rate everywhere. The 12 oz striploin runs $37.99 to $45.59, roughly $3.17 to $3.80 per ounce, and unlike either sirloin, that's another 1.2001x delivery match, not geography, and the single largest dollar gap on the whole menu at $7.60. Surf and turf upgrades, priced flat rather than ranged, break both patterns entirely.

The Double Surf Your Turf costs exactly $19.20 more than the high end of the matching steak at every size. A lobster topper or tail runs a flat $12.00 more instead, both priced identically, so that choice is preference, not cost. Measured against the lower steak price, the same upgrade effectively runs $23.40 to $26.80 more, since the flat surf and turf price doesn't get whatever discount, delivery or location, applies to the cheaper steak underneath it.

Kids menu and sides

Only the Ooey Gooey grilled cheese holds a flat price on the kids menu, $6.99; everything else follows roughly the same 20 percent pattern as the adult menu, topping out at $11.99.

Sides tell the opposite story: zero of 24 priced items in Sides and Add-Ons carry a range, from $0.83 condiments to the $10.79 Large onion rings.

For feeding a family, the Southern BBQ combo for four at $71.99 works out to $18.00 per person, the best rate of any combo on the menu. The four combos for two, steak, chicken, burger and rib, are all $53.94, or $26.97 per person. For the lowest possible ticket, pair the flat-priced grilled cheese with a couple of $3.59 sides, mash, rice, beans or coleslaw.

Every price on this page comes from a single compiled file covering Montana's locations in Toronto, Kingston and Hamilton, Ontario, current as of August 6, 2026. Where the file gave a range, I kept it and calculated the gap myself; where a range matched the delivery multiplier verified separately on Kelsey's, I flagged it as likely delivery pricing rather than a confirmed label, since the file itself doesn't say. Where it said Varies, I left the item out rather than invent a figure. The average main figure is the mean of the priced Forks and knives entrees, using the midpoint of any range. All prices exclude tax; Ontario adds 13 percent HST.
